Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail - What To Do After Beating The Main Scenario Quests (2024)

Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail brings the Warrior of Light to the vibrant world of Tural, a continent across the sea to the west of Eorzea. While the Main Scenario will take dozens of hours to beat, and that's without getting side-tracked, the end of this story marks the beginning of much more to do in the game.

If you've beaten Dawntrail's Main Scenario Quests and hit level 100, you may be overwhelmed with options for what to do next, or maybe you have no idea where to start. Luckily, there are tons of things to do, with some being more involved than others. Below, we'll take a deeper look at some of the best things to do after completing Dawntrail's MSQ.

Unlock Optional Dungeons

After finishing the final quest of the MSQ, you’ll be able to unlock two new optional Dungeons. These are much more challenging than the story Dungeons so far, but allow you to loot iLvl 690 Accessories, which will be essential if you plan on tackling this expansion’s more difficult content.

The Dungeons you can unlock are Tender Valley and The Strayborough Deadwalk. Completing both of these will also enable Expert Roulette, which you can use to quickly stock up on Tomestones of Aesthetics. Use these resources to gear up and prepare for harder battles!

Unlock Flying

If you haven't been keeping up with collecting Aether Currents while going through the story, now is the time to get this done. Unlocking flying in every Dawntrail zone adds a world of convenience, letting you get to Fates, side quests, or any other area, faster.

While collecting every Aether Current in every map is definitely a hassle, it doesn't take too long, especially if you remember to use your Aether Compass. The ability to fly in Dawntrail zones is more than worth the time it takes to unlock this feature, so this should be a priority once you've wrapped up the MSQ.

Gear Up

In a similar vein, gearing up your main Job is an important part of Dawntrail’s endgame. You can get iLvl 700 gear from the Tomestones of Aesthetics vendor in Solution Nine, so you’ll definitely want to stock up on this currency.

However, for the true min-maxers, just getting your gear isn’t the final step; you’ll still want to meld your gear with strong Materia. Materia allows you to add even more stats to your gear, letting you push just a bit further with your equipment. Gathering Materia will also take some time, but can be lessened by joining Hunt trains or doing Roulettes with the Adventurer in Need bonus.

Challenge Extreme Trials

After beating the MSQ, you can also unlock Extreme versions of two of the Trials from Dawntrail. If you’ve never fought an Extreme Trial before, they are essentially harder versions of the story boss with different mechanics.

While not as difficult as Ultimate Raids, Extreme Trials offer a nice challenge for endgame players who want to put their skills and teamwork to the test. Plus, there are exclusive Mounts that drop from these Trials, so collectors will definitely want to partake.

Level Other Jobs

If you’ve focused solely on the story up til now, chances are you only have one Job at level 100. There are dozens of other Jobs in the game, however, and limiting yourself to just one is a disservice! Leveling other Jobs is a fun way to learn more about different areas of the game, or how other Roles like Tanking or Healing work, if you’re primarily a DPS player.

Also, if you haven't yet, now is a great time to level your Crafters and Gatherers. With these Jobs maxed out, you can craft your own gear, make furniture for your house or apartment, or make a ton of extra gil selling crafting materials. Plus,

Farm Fates

Since the introduction of the Shared Fate system in Shadowbringers, farming Fates in the open world is a great way to get some extra EXP, Gil, and rare rewards. As you rank up your Shared Fate rank in each Dawntrail zone, you’ll gain access to new rewards from the Bicolor Gemstone Vendors.

These vendors sell materials that you can sell for a nice bundle of gil, or, after you’ve hit Rank four in every zone, you can purchase Gemstone Vouchers. Get 500 of these and you can exchange it for an extremely rare Mount, the Ty'aitya. Even if you’re just in it for the gil, farming Fates is a great way to pass the time between Roulette queues or while waiting for your friends to catch up in the story.

Hunt For Rare Mounts And Minions

Speaking of rare Mounts, Dawntrail added several new Mounts to collect, ranging from Golden Alpaca to flying Squirrels. If you're a collector, you'll definitely want to add these new mounts to your roster. However, quite a few of these will take a while to get, like the aforementioned Bicolor Gemstone mount, the Ty'aitya, or the Outrunner, which requires you to level every battle Job (excluding Blue Mage) to 100.

While not as flashy, there are also tons of new Minions to collect. Every Dawntrail Dungeon has a new Minion to collect, plus several others that can be obtained from quests, like the Cornservant, or other sources in the game. Collecting every new Mount and Minion will take tons of time, but it's a perfect long-term goal once you're through with the story.

Finish Role Quests

Role Quests offer side stories, similar to Job Quests in the past, for each of the five main roles in the game: Tank, Healer, Magical DPS, Ranged DPS, and Melee DPS. Role Quests have been around since Shadowbringers, so chances are you’re already familiar with this concept.

While the rewards aren’t outstanding, Role Quests are a nice way to expand on the storyline of the expansion, offering a look at different parts of the various cultures of Tural. Completing a Role Quest will also let you dye the Artifact Gear for each Jobin that Role, further expanding your endgame glamour options.

Revisit Old Content

Final Fantasy 14 is a massive game, and even if you've been playing for years, chances are there's still content to explore from earlier expansions. Farming for rare Mounts, titles, or glamour items, clearing Ultimate Raids, or exploring Field Content like Eureka are just a few options.

Before diving into the wealth of content that has been added to the game over the past few years, it's a good idea to have a goal in mind. Some mounts, like the Pteranodon, Triceratops, or Rroneek will take dozens of hours to grind out, so keep your goals realistic. Still, these are great ways to invest more time into the game and grow your account, if that's what you want to do.
