Following Go To
  • The biggest shock to start off the horror of the film comes from Jeremy suddenly putting a gun into his mouth and committing suicide after a brutal strip-down by Chef Slowik.
  • Doug Verrick, the finance bros' "angel investor" is suddenly revealed outside, none of the guests knowing he showed up at the island, and is very... slowly... lowered down into the water to drown while the bros plead with the Chef to let him go. The last we see of him is his fingers being dropped into each of the guest's gift bags.
  • When Richard Liebbrandt attempts to make a run for it, he is pinned down by several kitchen staff, then Elsa CHOPS HIS RING FINGER OFF with no fuss on her end. On his end, he is screaming and sobbing.
  • Katherine suddenly stabs Chef Slowik in the leg after revealing that he repeatedly sexually harassed her.
  • Even before the horror amps up, Julian's description of his childhood abuse, stabbing his father in the leg with scissors, then representing it in the next course. He then casually mentions that he should have gone for his father's throat instead.
  • Chef Slowik instructs Erin to do Elsa's job to get a barrel she forgot in the smokehouse. There seems to be no other motivation aside from treating her as part of the staff. Then...
    • ELSA. In a jealous rage, she slashes at Erin with a massive knife, the frenzied state she is in with a blank stare is nothing short of unsettling. Her reflexes when dodging the pan are impressive and demonstrate the determination to be better and not be replaced by Erin.
    • Elsa's death. Erin manages to strike her over the head with a purée machine. Even so, Elsa does not let go of the knife, continuing to attempt to stab her despite being straddled. Erin manages to turn the knife around while wrestling her, but it was an accident on her end that it went into her throat. Her shriek of realization when it sinks in what happened is awful, especially since she attempted to make peace just before the fight started/
  • There are some disturbing implications that Richard Liebbrandt had Erin sexually roleplay as his dead daughter.
  • Chef Slowik gives a Hannibal Lecture to Tyler unheard to the audience, but the aftermath comes in the form of Tyler looking at him with broken, teary eyes, then he is found by Erin hanged in a closet. Whatever he said had to be brutal to Break the Haughty.
  • The cult-like behavior of the cooks is... uncanny. They behave like robots in the kitchen, immediately obey when their boss claps his hands, and they have no privacy in their quarters within a small bomb shelter. They are utterly brainwashed and make no move to protest being knowingly killed at the end of the night. Elsa's final words state that she didn't forget the barrel, he never told her to do so. This is an example of classic gaslighting techniques to force the members to work harder for just out-of-reach approval. Their final words as the rest of them die are "we love you, Chef!"
  • When Erin wins her freedom through challenging Chef Slowik to make a traditional cheeseburger, all of the other guests have resigned themselves to their fates at the hands of the cult of cooks. The looks on their faces are pitiable.
  • The S'more. The guests are dressed up in capes of marshmallows and hats of chocolate while the staff pours flammable liquid on the floor. The Sommelier, in particular, dances gleefully as he pours the wine. The guests' expressions when Chef Slowik mentions fire as part of the dish. The cooks, with their robotic and brainwashed demeanor, thank him. A few of the guests join them. Chef Slowik is the first to go out as he stands right at the start of the fire, yet he miraculously does not scream as he dies by one of the most painful methods of death. Lillian's chocolate melts directly into her eyes. The last we see of all of them goes up in flames reflected in Erin's eyes.
