How to cut food better? ›Move the knife in a rocking, tip-to-heel motion to cleanly slice a food all the way through. Slide the fingers of your claw hand back and move the knife (not the food) after each cut. Experienced chefs use the knuckle of their middle finger as a width guide for slices.

Continental or European Style: Cutting the food with the right hand and using the left hand to hold the food while cutting and when eating. American Style: Cutting the food with the right hand and holding the food with the left, then switching hands to eat with the right hand.
What is the proper etiquette for knife and fork? ›With continental style the fork always stays in the left hand, with the tines pointed down, and the knife is always held by the right hand. The food is then speared by the fork and brought to the mouth with the tines facing down. The cutlery never changes hands.
Do you cut food with your left or right hand? ›In the United States, the traditional way to use a fork starts out with a knife in your right hand and a fork in your left. After using the knife to cut your food, you set it down and switch your fork to your right hand—hence “cut-and-switch.”
